Research results will make you ban your daughters from using smartphones; find out why it’s dangerous

The results of this study will definitely convince you to forbid your daughters from spending too much time on electronic devices, since you probably didn’t know how bad they could be for their health.

A recent study found that girls who use tablets and smartphones too much may see changes in their hormone levels and have a higher chance of starting puberty earlier than they should.

According to the findings of the research, a higher period of exposure to blue light was connected with an earlier start of puberty in the female rats. Additionally, it demonstrated a rise in the levels of some reproductive hormones as well as physical alterations in their ovaries.

“We have found that blue light exposure, sufficient to alter melatonin levels, is also able to alter reproductive hormone levels and cause earlier puberty onset. In addition, the longer the exposure, the earlier the onset,” the person in charge of the research said.

The research team employed a rat model for the study into the effects of blue light exposure on reproductive hormone levels and the time of puberty start. The findings of the study were presented at the 60th Annual Meeting of the ESPE.

In this study, female rats were separated into three groups of six and either subjected to a regular light cycle, six hours of blue light, or twelve hours of blue light.

Both groups who were exposed to blue light showed signs of puberty sooner, and the longer they were exposed, the sooner the symptoms showed up.

In rats that were subjected to blue light, levels of melatonin were found to be lower, and levels of two specific reproductive hormones, oestradiol and luteinizing hormone, were found to be higher. Also, the ovarian tissue of the rats changed in ways that were consistent with the start of puberty.

At the end of the first 12 hours of exposure, the rats’ ovaries revealed evidence of cell damage as well as inflammation.

The use of smartphones that give off blue light has been linked to children having trouble sleeping. However, these results show that there may be other risks to children’s development and their ability to have children in the future.
