Dayton, Ohio – A 59-year-old man was killed and another driver was taken to a hospital following an early morning two-vehicle crash in Montgomery County on Friday, August 14.
Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the intersection of Derby Road and Infirmary Road at approximately 6:36 a.m. after receiving a report of an injury crash.
According to preliminary findings from investigators, a white 2013 Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on Infirmary Road as a blue 2007 Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Derby Road.
Authorities said the Honda CR-V failed to yield when it entered the intersection. The Dodge Caravan then struck the CR-V.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage in the collision.
One driver pronounced dead at scene
The 59-year-old man driving the Honda CR-V was the only person inside that vehicle. The Dayton Fire Department responded to the scene, where the driver was pronounced dead.
The Dodge Caravan was also occupied only by its driver, a 62-year-old man.
The Moraine Fire Department transported the 62-year-old to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities described his injuries as non-life-threatening.
No passengers were reported in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit is continuing to investigate the collision. The preliminary investigation has established the directions in which both vehicles were traveling and indicated that the Honda failed to yield while entering the intersection.
Authorities have not provided additional details about what may have contributed to the failure to yield or identified either driver in the information released.
The investigation remains active as the Traffic Services Unit works to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
