Long-awaited sports betting in Ohio will start next year

Columbus, Ohio – According to a recent announcement made by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the state of Ohio’s long-awaited sports betting bill will become effective on January 1, 2023.

According to the commission, this will be the single largest expansion of gambling ever to take place in the state of Ohio.

At this time, the state has not yet completed the applications for any of the nine different types of licenses for sports betting that it will offer.

Regardless of this, there are three different application submission periods for licensing.

The first period will open on June 15; the second will open exactly one month later, on July 15; and the third and final window will open on November 2.

At least 550 restaurants and bars in Ohio that are eligible for these licenses have already filled out “Sports Gaming Interest Forms,” which will start the verification process.

The state anticipates that the industry of sports betting will be worth $1 billion in its first year and that this number will climb to $3.5 billion within a few years.
