“This lunatic, Hakeem ‘Low IQ’ Jeffries, should be charged”: Trump intensifies attacks on Jeffries over “Maximum warfare” image tied to assassination attempt while accusing Democrats of wanting to “Destroy our Country”

Ohio – A political firestorm was already erupting in Washington when Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno stepped into the debate, warning that increasingly aggressive political rhetoric could have dangerous real-world consequences. Moreno argued that language describing the country as being “at war” might be interpreted literally by unstable individuals, especially in an already tense political climate. His comments came after the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump during last month’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner — an attack that immediately triggered a bitter national argument over political rhetoric, blame, and responsibility.

That battle has only intensified in the weeks since.

Now Trump himself has escalated the confrontation dramatically, directly accusing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of helping fuel the environment surrounding the attack and demanding criminal consequences against the New York Democrat.

“This lunatic, Hakeem ‘Low IQ’ Jeffries, should be charged with INCITING VIOLENCE! The Radical Left Democrats actually want to Destroy our Country,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

The president attached an image showing Jeffries using the phrase “Maximum warfare” days before the shooting attempt, placing the words over a photo of Trump. Republicans have repeatedly pointed to that phrase as evidence that Democratic rhetoric has become dangerously inflammatory.

The latest attack marked another major escalation in what has quickly become one of the ugliest political feuds in Washington.

Trump ramps up attacks against Jeffries

Trump’s accusations against Jeffries did not stop with claims about inciting violence.

Just days earlier, the president publicly attacked the Democratic leader again, calling him a “thug” and “a danger to our Country” in another Truth Social post.

“Low IQ Democrat Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, is nothing but a THUG, and he is a danger to our Country!” Trump wrote while sharing an image of Jeffries holding a baseball bat.

The president has also begun openly discussing impeachment against Jeffries following comments the Democratic leader made about the Supreme Court’s recent Voting Rights Act decision.

Jeffries criticized the ruling as “illegitimate” and claimed it was “designed to undermine the ability of communities of color.”

Trump responded furiously.

“Hakeem Jeffries, a Low IQ individual, said our Supreme Court is ‘illegitimate.’ After saying such a thing, isn’t he subject to Impeachment?” Trump wrote. “I got impeached for A PERFECT PHONE CALL. Where are you Republicans? Why not get it started? They’ll be doing this to me!”

The attacks have transformed Jeffries into one of Trump’s most frequent political targets at a moment when tensions between both parties are already reaching dangerous levels.

Democrats push back as political tensions rise

Jeffries quickly dismissed Trump’s accusations and mocked the president’s repeated attacks against him.

Posting on X, the Democratic leader referred to Trump’s behavior as “Jeffries Derangement Syndrome.”

Democrats have also strongly rejected Republican attempts to connect Jeffries’ political language to the assassination attempt itself. Many inside the party argue Republicans are selectively focusing on Democratic rhetoric while ignoring Trump’s own long history of personal attacks and aggressive political language.

That argument exploded after Republicans seized on Jeffries’ earlier “Maximum warfare” remarks related to redistricting battles.

Jeffries has refused to apologize or soften his comments despite mounting Republican criticism.

“As it relates to the comment related to ‘maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time,’ in connection with the redistricting battle that Republicans launched, I stand by it,” he previously said.

At the same time, Jeffries has repeatedly stated that violence itself should never be accepted in politics.

“Political violence in any form, directed at anyone, whether that’s left, right or center, is unacceptable. Period, full stop,” he said.

Still, Republicans continue arguing that Democrats helped create an atmosphere of hostility toward Trump and his supporters.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt recently blamed what she described as a broader “systemic demonization” campaign against the president for contributing to the climate surrounding the attack.

Meanwhile, Democrats accuse Republicans of weaponizing the shooting politically while refusing to acknowledge inflammatory rhetoric on the right.

A growing political and personal war

The clash between Trump and Jeffries now stretches far beyond a single incident.

If Democrats regain control of the House in November, Jeffries is expected to become the first African American Speaker of the House in U.S. history. That possibility has already elevated his national political profile and made him one of the most important Democratic figures heading into the election cycle.

Ironically, Trump’s relentless attacks may actually be strengthening Jeffries among Democratic voters who want party leaders to confront the president more aggressively.

At the same time, Jeffries has attempted to calm speculation that Democrats would automatically move to impeach Trump again if they retake Congress.

But the broader political environment continues becoming more hostile and unstable.

The attempted assassination at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner marked the third known attack against Trump in less than three years. Combined with multiple recent acts of political violence targeting figures from both parties, the incident has deepened fears that America’s political divisions are entering even more dangerous territory.

Now, with Trump openly demanding charges, impeachment, and investigations against one of the country’s top Democratic leaders, the fight over rhetoric itself has become one of the biggest political battles in America.
