Dayton Police report second death after shooting incident at Home Avenue party on June 24

Dayton, Ohio – Dayton Police have confirmed a second fatality following a shooting incident on June 24, which initially left one woman dead and several others injured. Jhakavion Casey, 18, who was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, has succumbed to his injuries.

Shooting Details and Immediate Response

The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Monday, June 24. Emergency crews responded to reports of gunfire near the 1500 block of Home Avenue, where a party was taking place at a vacant residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered seven individuals with gunshot wounds.

Donna Zile, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the five other injured individuals remains unknown at this time. According to Dayton Police, the victims were attending a party at a vacant house on Home Avenue, and the number of juveniles and adults present is still undetermined.

Public Assistance Requested

Dayton Police are seeking public assistance to gather more information about the incident. Witnesses, whether present at the scene or with access to security footage, are urged to come forward. Lt. Col. Eric Henderson of the Dayton Police Department emphasized the importance of community cooperation during an afternoon press briefing. “It’s alarming. Quite frankly, all these incidents are alarming,” said Henderson. “This could have been a lot worse. And there’s a potential we may have a second individual that loses their life.”

Ongoing Investigation

This shooting marks the third incident involving large parties at vacant houses in Dayton since June 17. Lt. Col. Henderson mentioned that the police are actively following up on all leads and have multiple vehicle descriptions to work with. The possibility of multiple weapons being used in the shooting is being investigated, although the exact number of rounds fired has not yet been determined.

Henderson urged Dayton residents to report any known future gatherings at vacant houses to prevent similar incidents. Residents are encouraged to call 333-COPS if they become aware of such events.
