Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to host drug take back event at Harrison Township Substation

Dayton, Ohio – Residents in Montgomery County are being encouraged to take part in an upcoming event focused on safety, prevention, and responsible disposal of medications that may otherwise pose a risk if left unused at home. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has announced its participation in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offering the public a simple and secure way to get rid of old or expired medications.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the Harrison Township Substation, located at 5945 North Dixie Drive in Dayton, Ohio. Officials are urging residents to mark their calendars and take advantage of this opportunity to clear out medicine cabinets in a safe and responsible manner.

Safe and simple way to dispose of medications

National Take-Back Day is designed to reduce the risk of misuse, accidental ingestion, and environmental harm caused by improper disposal of medications. Rather than flushing drugs down the drain or throwing them in the trash, this event provides a controlled setting where items can be handled properly.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that “National Take-Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.” Events like this also help limit access to medications that could otherwise be misused, especially in homes with children or vulnerable individuals.

A wide range of items will be accepted during the event. Residents can bring non-narcotics, narcotics, over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, and even veterinary medications. This broad acceptance ensures that most household medications can be safely removed without confusion.

However, there are clear restrictions on what can be turned in. Biohazard materials, illegal drugs, liquids, and needles will not be accepted at the site. Officials stress the importance of following these guidelines to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely for both participants and staff.

By offering a convenient drop-off location and clear instructions, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office hopes to see strong community participation. The event not only helps reduce potential dangers inside homes but also supports broader public health and safety efforts across the region.

Residents are encouraged to gather any unused or expired medications ahead of time and bring them to the Harrison Township Substation during the designated hours.
