Slope issues force extended closure of Mingo Junction ramp as repair project looms

Mingo Junction, Ohio – A critical access point in Mingo Junction has been shut down indefinitely as the Ohio Department of Transportation addresses ongoing structural concerns. The Logan Avenue ramp leading to State Route 7 northbound is now closed due to a recurring slope failure that has worsened over recent months.

According to officials, “plans to repair this location were already in place,” but the worsening condition since January 2025 led to an early and indefinite closure. The ramp has become increasingly unstable, and to ensure public safety, officials decided to close it “out of an abundance of caution until the project to repair it is complete.”

Construction is expected to begin in mid-summer, although an exact date has yet to be announced. Along with stabilizing the slope, the project will also involve replacing a culvert that runs underneath the ramp, addressing drainage issues that may have contributed to the failure.

While repairs are pending, a detour has been set up to guide drivers safely around the affected area. The detour directs traffic from Logan Avenue onto State Route 7 southbound, continuing to Commercial Avenue, which then loops back to State Route 7 northbound.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution when navigating the detour and to check for updates as the construction schedule is finalized. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the Ohio Department of Transportation. This ramp closure serves as a reminder of how weather and environmental factors can impact infrastructure and why timely maintenance and safety measures are crucial.
