Columbus, Ohio – The sixteenth of nearly two dozen massive “super loads” is set to depart from Adams County on Thursday, August 22, heading to New Albany to deliver essential components to the new Intel plant in Licking County. This load is part of a carefully coordinated effort to transport large and heavy equipment necessary for the plant’s construction.
Details of the Super Load
This particular super load consists of a tank that measures 19 feet 1 inch tall, 16 feet 1 inch wide, and stretches 197 feet in length. The tank weighs a staggering 395,450 pounds. The journey is meticulously planned, with the convoy making scheduled stops along the way. On Thursday, the load will pause in Chillicothe before continuing to Rickenbacker in Franklin County on Friday. The final destination in New Albany is set for Saturday, August 24.
Planning and Coordination
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has undertaken extensive planning to ensure that the route can safely accommodate these super loads. The route has been analyzed to address potential obstacles, and adjustments have been made in collaboration with local governments and utility companies. This includes moving or adjusting large overhead signs, traffic signals, and utility lines that might obstruct the convoy’s path.
To ensure safety and minimize disruptions, each super load is escorted by several Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers. These escorts allow emergency traffic to navigate around the rolling roadblock with minimal delay. Additionally, the schedule for each load is carefully coordinated with local events, such as festivals and fairs, to further reduce any potential impact on the community.
Ongoing Updates and Notifications
ODOT will continue to provide updates as each load progresses from the dock on the Ohio River near Manchester in Adams County toward central Ohio. Residents and businesses can find more information and sign up for email alerts at transportation.ohio.gov/superload.
