Sidney, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 7 is inviting public comments on several proposed infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing transportation in Miami, Montgomery, and Shelby Counties. The projects, which focus on culvert repairs and roadway improvements, are part of ODOT’s ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the state’s transportation systems.
Culvert Repairs in Three Counties
One of the key projects, known as D07-Culvert Repair Fiscal Year 2026 (PID 116498), involves rehabilitating six culvert systems across Miami, Montgomery, and Shelby Counties. The work will include cleaning out the culverts and applying spray liner or field paving as needed. This maintenance is crucial for ensuring proper drainage and preventing roadway flooding. The project is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026.
Enhancing Bicycle and Pedestrian Access in Dayton
In addition to the culvert repairs, the City of Dayton has two major improvement projects in the works. The first, MOT-East Third Street Improvements (PID 116967), aims to enhance pedestrian and bicycle access along East Third Street, from Webster Street to Keowee Street. This project is designed to make the area more accessible for cyclists and is set to start in June 2027.
South Smithville Road Reconstruction
The second Dayton project, MOT-Smithville Road Reconstruction (PID 116964), involves the complete reconstruction of South Smithville Road from US 35 to Huffman Avenue. The project will include repaving the roadway, adding a two-way left turn lane, installing new traffic signals, and creating a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. This project is also expected to begin in June 2027.
Public Feedback Encouraged
ODOT encourages residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback on these projects. Comments can be submitted by September 30, 2024, to Tricia Bishop by phone at 937-497-6721 or via email at [email protected].
These projects are part of ODOT’s commitment to improving safety, accessibility, and efficiency on Ohio’s roadways.
