Public input sought for multiple road and trail improvement projects across Ohio

Dayton, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation is requesting public feedback on several major transportation and infrastructure projects planned for the coming years. These projects span multiple cities and counties, aiming to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety, improve road conditions, and reduce congestion. The public has until March 31, 2025, to submit their comments and concerns regarding these developments.

Upcoming Roadway and Trail Improvement Projects

ODOT and its partner agencies are focusing on multiple areas across Ohio, with projects ranging from pedestrian enhancements to interstate widening. Below is a breakdown of some of the key proposals:

East Third Street Enhancements in Dayton (PID 119397)

  • Location: Dayton, OH
  • Scope: Two-way cycle track, pedestrian crossings, and traffic lane reduction
  • Purpose: Improve bicycle and pedestrian safety
  • Construction Start Date: June 2026

Great Miami River Recreation Trail Upgrades (PID 119379)

  • Location: Cities of Dayton and Moraine
  • Scope: 1.4-mile trail reconstruction, new parking, mid-block crossing to Carillon Park, and added amenities
  • Purpose: Enhance the recreational experience for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Construction Start Date: Early 2027 (6-month project duration)

Keowee Street Safety Improvements in Dayton (PID 120094)

  • Location: Dayton, OH
  • Scope: Multi-use paths on both sides, signal upgrades, lane reduction from seven lanes to five
  • Purpose: Increase pedestrian safety and reduce traffic speeds
  • Construction Start Date: Summer 2026

Simon-Kenton Trail Safety Upgrades (PID 119469)

  • Location: Champaign County
  • Scope: Safety improvements at six trail crossings
  • Purpose: Increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists

Miamisburg-Springboro Pike and Benner Road Intersection Project (PID 119569)

Mad River Trail Phase 1 (PID 109432)

  • Location: Clark County
  • Scope: New 1.3-mile multi-use trail along a former rail bed, connecting Old Mill Road to US 68
  • Features: 11-foot paved path, 2-foot shoulders, and a 4-vehicle parking area
  • Purpose: Improve access to Mad River Gorge & Nature Preserve
  • Construction Start Date: Spring 2027

Far Hills Avenue Street Lighting Replacement (PID 121633)

  • Location: Kettering, OH
  • Scope: Replacement of outdated streetlights with energy-efficient lighting
  • Purpose: Improve visibility and energy efficiency

Broadway Street Reconstruction in Covington (PID 119367)

  • Scope: Full roadway reconstruction, including new striping, sidewalks, curbs, storm drainage, and signage

Interstate 75 Widening Project (PID 113579)

  • Location: Between Warren and Montgomery Counties
  • Scope: Widening of I-75 from three lanes to four lanes in each direction

Main Street Pedestrian Upgrades in Clayton (PID 119822)

  • Location: Clayton, OH
  • Scope: Sidewalk installation, storm sewer improvements, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and traffic signal upgrades
  • Purpose: Enhance pedestrian accessibility and intersection safety
  • Construction Start Date: August 2026 (12-month project duration)

Founders Drive Pedestrian Enhancements (PID 121631)

  • Location: Kettering, OH
  • Scope: Sidewalk installation along the east side of Founders Drive
  • Purpose: Provide better pedestrian connectivity
  • Construction Start Date: Spring/Summer 2027
