Ohio Transportation Department seeks public input on four major infrastructure projects across western counties

Sidney, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 7 is calling on the public to share feedback on several major transportation improvement projects scheduled for development in western Ohio. These efforts, aimed at enhancing safety and infrastructure, span across Auglaize, Miami, Darke, and Montgomery counties, with construction timelines beginning as early as 2026.

Roundabout to Improve Safety at US 33 and I-75 in Auglaize County

One of the most significant updates is the advancement of the AUG-U.S. 33 at IR 75 Interchange Improvements, PID 118055. Following public feedback, ODOT confirmed it will move forward with its preferred alternative: the installation of a roundabout at the northbound exit ramp from Interstate 75 to U.S. 33. This plan aims to improve traffic flow and reduce collisions in the area. Construction is slated to begin in Spring 2026.

A detailed summary of the public comments and ODOT’s responses has been made available on the project’s official page. Residents and stakeholders can access supporting documents such as the project brochure, feasibility study, and roundabout navigation guide by selecting the “DOWNLOAD PROJECT FILES” option.

New Roundabout Proposed for Dangerous Intersection in Miami and Darke Counties

Another safety-centered proposal is the MIA/DAR-U.S. 36 at SR 721 Intersection Improvements, PID 118070. This project targets an intersection with a history of higher-than-expected crash rates. ODOT’s current preferred solution is to replace the existing two-way stop configuration with a modern roundabout.

Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2027. An online presentation outlining the scope and purpose of the improvement is available through ODOT’s project page. Supporting files including a feasibility study and roundabout driving guide are also accessible via the “DOWNLOAD PROJECT FILES” button.

Bridge Rehabilitation Set for Garnsey Street in Piqua

The MIA-Garnsey Street Bridge Rehabilitation, PID 121206, will focus on the bridge spanning the Great Miami River in Piqua. Work will include painting of structural steel, replacing the deteriorated concrete deck with a new composite concrete structure, and performing necessary approach road repairs. The rehabilitation is expected to begin in July 2026 and may take up to 12 months to complete.

Centerville to Add Multi-Use Path for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety

In Montgomery County, the MOT-Centerville Franklin/Clyo Bike Path, PID 119385, proposes replacing existing sidewalks with a multi-use path. The improvements will span the south side of East Franklin Street (between Johanna Drive and Clyo Road) and continue along the east side of Clyo Road (from Franklin Street to Alex-Bell Road).

The 15-month construction project is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027 and is designed to significantly enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety in the area.

Public Feedback Encouraged

ODOT invites residents, commuters, and community stakeholders to review the proposed plans and offer their input. Comments should be submitted no later than July 31, 2025. Interested parties may contact Tricia Bishop at 937-497-6721 or email [email protected].
