Ohio – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the results of the November TechCred application period, revealing that 492 employers were awarded funding to help Ohioans earn 6,766 tech-focused credentials. This latest round of funding marks a major milestone for the program, which has awarded more than 120,000 credentials to nearly 3,500 Ohio employers since its launch in 2019.
“TechCred gives Ohio employers the opportunity to choose the tech training their employees need – most times at no cost to them,” said Governor DeWine. “Participating in TechCred is a great way for employers to ensure their employees continue learning new skills.”
The TechCred program provides businesses with the resources to train both current and prospective employees with valuable credentials that support Ohio’s growing technology-based economy. Among the credentials awarded in the November round, nearly 3,000 were manufacturing-related, benefiting approximately 200 manufacturers across the state. Since the program’s inception, nearly 1,400 manufacturers have received funding to award over 53,600 credentials.
Supporting Ohio’s Workforce and Economy
TechCred has become a crucial initiative in helping Ohio businesses adapt to evolving industry demands by equipping employees with the necessary skills. Businesses across various sectors can receive up to $30,000 per application period and up to $180,000 annually to cover training costs. This funding helps employers of all sizes stay competitive while providing workers with opportunities for professional growth.
“As Ohio continues to grow, equipping people with the skills to succeed in today’s workforce is more important than ever,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “Today’s results highlight the importance of investing in Ohioans as they develop in-demand skills, advance their careers, and strengthen our economy—all while ensuring businesses have access to exceptional talent.”
Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey emphasized the program’s role in enhancing education and the economy. “The short-term credential is a critical part of higher education and Ohio’s economy,” he stated. “The success of the TechCred program is a testament to its ability to use these credentials to upskill Ohio’s workforce and create a win-win for workers and their employers.”
