Governor DeWine announces funding to support law enforcement efforts against illegal drug trafficking

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced $3 million in new funding earlier this week to help 38 local law enforcement agencies crack down on illegal drug activity across the state. The money comes from the 2025 Ohio Drug Law Enforcement Fund and will be used to support the work of drug task forces in identifying and targeting those involved in the drug trade.

“Ohio’s drug task forces are a major deterrent to those pushing drugs in our communities,” said Governor DeWine. “Their work is indispensable in rooting out traffickers and suppliers, and we are proud to continue offering this support.”

The funding will be used to investigate drug trafficking organizations, prevent the diversion of prescription drugs, and disrupt organized criminal activity. Task forces will use the resources to gather intelligence, share information with other agencies, and coordinate their efforts to stop the flow of illegal drugs into Ohio communities.

Since 2019, more than $20 million has been distributed through this fund to support task force efforts. In addition to supporting investigations, agencies can also use the grants to assist victims of drug overdoses and offer help to their families through education, outreach, and treatment programs.

This grant program is part of Ohio’s larger Drug Interdiction, Disruption, and Reduction Plan, which is funded through the state’s operating budget. It is administered by the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services under the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The funding reflects Ohio’s continued commitment to battling drug-related crime and providing resources to help those impacted by substance abuse. More details about the grants and the agencies receiving them will be released in the coming weeks.
