Gov. DeWine directs state agencies to prepare for Northeast Ohio storm recovery

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has issued a formal proclamation to bolster the State of Ohio’s and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s (Ohio EMA) ongoing efforts in response to the severe storms that have impacted Northeast Ohio since Tuesday. The proclamation is a directive for state agencies to be fully prepared to provide additional assistance to local communities if the need arises.

In the proclamation, Governor DeWine authorized and instructed “all state departments and agencies to be at the ready and to utilize their personnel and resources as necessary to protect the lives, safety, health, and property of the citizens of Ohio and to assist with recovery efforts in communities impacted by this severe weather event if needed and requested by local authorities.”

Ohio EMA has been actively monitoring the situation since the storms began and has been coordinating the state agency response. The agency has served as the central point of contact for local requests for state assistance.

As of now, the only request for state assistance has been directed to the Ohio Department of Health for medical supplies. Other state agencies, such as the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, have been closely monitoring the situation through their regulatory oversight of SNAP benefits and electric utilities, respectively.

The Ohio EMA will continue to oversee storm remediation efforts and remain on standby to provide any further assistance that may be requested. This monitoring and coordination will persist as long as necessary to support affected communities in their recovery efforts. Governor DeWine’s proactive approach ensures that Ohio is fully prepared to address any additional needs that may emerge as a result of this severe weather event.
