Federal authorities bring Ohio drug trafficking suspect back from Thailand after months long international investigation

Cleveland, Ohio – A 35-year-old man has been returned to the United States from Thailand after authorities accused him of possessing large quantities of illegal drugs intended for distribution. Federal prosecutors say the suspect fled the country after his initial contact with law enforcement but was later located in Asia, arrested, and deported to face criminal charges in Ohio.

According to a criminal complaint and supporting affidavit filed in April, the investigation began in late 2025 when the U.S. Postal Service identified three suspicious packages that had been mailed from San Bernardino, California, to an address in Parma, Ohio.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and opened the parcels, where they discovered pills that laboratory testing later identified as methamphetamine. The packages contained approximately 1,136 grams, or about 2.5 pounds, of the drug.

Authorities said the packages were addressed to a residence connected to Stanislav Vinokurov.

Search uncovers multiple drugs and cash

After identifying the residence, investigators carried out a consensual search of the property.

According to court documents, officers discovered a large quantity of controlled substances along with equipment commonly associated with drug trafficking operations.

Among the items seized were approximately 7,149 grams of methamphetamine, 305.1 grams of fentanyl, 193.6 grams of bromazolam, 101.3 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as MDMA, 79.3 grams of cocaine, 17.4 grams of ketamine, and 17.3 grams of dimethyltryptamine.

Investigators also recovered approximately $24,512 in cash, digital scales, a vacuum sealer, and packing materials that prosecutors say are consistent with drug distribution activities.

Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Vinokurov in May.

The indictment charges him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and MDMA.

Arrested overseas after leaving the United States

Authorities say Vinokurov left the United States following his initial encounter with investigators.

Working together with federal and international law enforcement partners, officials eventually located him in Bangkok, Thailand.

He was arrested there and deported back to the United States, where he is now in federal custody awaiting further court proceedings.

If convicted on the charges, Vinokurov faces a possible sentence of up to life in federal prison.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer for the Northern District of Ohio, Acting Inspector in Charge David Cunningham of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Pittsburgh Division, and Special Agent in Charge Joseph O. Dixon of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Detroit Field Division.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the DEA Cleveland District Office, and the Parma Police Department.

Federal officials also credited the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs and the U.S. Marshals Service for assisting with locating and returning the suspect to the United States.

Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Joines is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Northern District of Ohio.

Federal prosecutors emphasized that an indictment is only an allegation. Vinokurov is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
