Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton is inviting the public to participate in establishing its new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action PlanĀ in an effort to improve the safety and accessibility of its roadways. Driven by a 2022 grant from the US Department of Transportation, this project seeks to drastically lower traffic-related deaths and major injuries all throughout the city.
The background
Inspired by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the SS4A project supports local efforts across the country to prevent road accidents using methodically, statistically driven approaches. Developed in cooperation with LJB, Inc., Dayton’s project aims to make the road environment safer, more inclusive for cars, cyclists, pedestrians, and commercial users alike.
Goals and structure of the action plan
The SS4A Action Plan is designed as a multi-faceted approach to road safety, incorporating eight key components:
- Leadership commitment and clear goal-setting
- A structured planning process
- In-depth safety analysis to identify high-risk areas
- Community engagement and collaborative efforts
- Equity in transportation access
- Necessary policy and procedural changes
- Strategic selection of safety projects
- Ongoing progress monitoring and transparency
Each element plays a crucial role in crafting a framework that not only addresses current safety challenges but also adapts to future needs.
The public input
Dayton’s road safety plan requiresĀ the knowledge and experience of its citizens to be successful. Whether one is a regular commuter, sporadic pedestrian, or company owner, every point of view is important to make sure the SS4A plan meets the different needs of every city user. Residents who participate directly affect the plans used to improve their own daily paths and community safety.
Getting involvedĀ
Those who want to help the Safe Streets Action Plan should learn more and offer comments via the city’s dedicated project portal. City officials, traffic experts, and the community working together hope to significantly lower traffic incidents and create a safer, more easily accessible Dayton.
Along with Dayton’s dedication to public safety, this participatory approach emphasizes the idea of community-driven transformation. Dayton is moving decisively toward a safer environment for everyone who uses its streets by asking residents to offer ideas and experiences.
