City of Dayton announces full day of festivities to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary

Dayton, Ohio – Dayton residents are being invited to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a full day of festivities that will include a downtown parade, a large street fair, family activities, and one of the region’s most anticipated fireworks displays.

City officials announced that the America 250 celebration will take place on Friday, July 3, bringing together visitors and local families for events scheduled throughout the day in downtown Dayton and around RiverScape MetroPark.

The celebration is expected to feature entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities, and patriotic events leading up to the annual Lights in Flight fireworks show later that evening.

Full Day Of Activities Planned

The day will begin with a street fair running from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at and around RiverScape MetroPark. Organizers said attendees can expect food vendors, games, a kids zone, and additional family-friendly attractions throughout the afternoon.

At noon, Dayton’s America 250 parade will officially begin in downtown Dayton. The parade route is scheduled to start at St. Clair Street and East Second Street before continuing through the downtown area and ending at Patterson Boulevard and North Jefferson Street.

City officials are encouraging residents and visitors to arrive early and prepare for increased traffic and crowds as the parade and street fair activities take place simultaneously.

The celebration will conclude with the popular Lights in Flight fireworks display beginning at 10 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from Kettering Field and are expected to be visible from many surrounding locations throughout the area.

Construction Impacts Fireworks Viewing Plans

Officials noted that Kettering Field is currently under construction as part of ongoing improvements involving new outdoor sports facilities.

Because of the construction activity, the field itself will be closed to the public and unavailable for vehicle parking during the fireworks event.

City leaders are advising spectators to make parking and viewing plans ahead of time to avoid delays or confusion on the night of the celebration.

Despite the closure of the field, organizers said the fireworks should still be clearly visible from nearby viewing areas around Dayton.

The City of Dayton described the event as an opportunity for the community to come together in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary while enjoying a day centered around family activities and local traditions.

Officials are expected to release additional updates and event information leading up to the celebration. Residents looking for schedules, parking guidance, and updates can find more details through the city’s official Lights in Flight information page.

With fireworks, a downtown parade, live activity zones, and large crowds expected throughout the day, city officials anticipate one of the biggest community celebrations of the summer as Dayton joins nationwide events commemorating America’s historic milestone anniversary.
