Dayton Police Department offers free public class for an in-depth look at body camera use in law enforcement

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Police Department (DPD) is offering a unique opportunity for residents to gain a better understanding of how body cameras are used by law enforcement. On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the DPD will host a free class at the Dayton Police Academy, located at 3237 Guthrie Road in Dayton.

This class is part of the Dayton Law Enforcement Experience (DLEE), designed to provide the public with a closer look at police tools and techniques. Participants will learn about the role of body cameras in modern policing, including how they help capture critical video evidence at crime scenes, document interactions with the public, and provide transparency. As DPD explains, body cameras not only enhance accountability but also add an extra layer of protection for officers.

The use of body cameras has been transformative for law enforcement agencies, but it is not without its challenges. This class will explore both the benefits and the controversies surrounding the use of this technology in law enforcement.

The class is open to anyone aged 16 and older. To register, email [email protected].

Join the DPD for this informative session and learn how body cameras are helping shape the future of law enforcement.
