Dayton Police Department hosts free class on citizen-police interactions

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Police Department is hosting a free class as part of the Dayton Law Enforcement Experience (DLEE) on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dayton Police Academy. The class is designed to provide valuable insights into interactions with law enforcement, focusing on traffic stops, citizens’ rights, and how the public can contribute to crime investigations as reliable witnesses.

Understanding Police Traffic Stops

One of the central themes of the class will be exploring the dynamics and dangers of a “routine” police traffic stop. Many people may encounter police officers while driving, and understanding what to expect during these encounters can reduce confusion and anxiety. The Dayton Police Department aims to educate the public on both the police perspective and the rights citizens have during such stops.

The course will also delve into specific situations, such as traffic stops involving juveniles, and what happens when police come to your home. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, engage with officers, and discuss common concerns about police interactions.

Becoming a Better Witness

In addition to learning about personal rights, attendees will be taught how to be effective and reliable witnesses during criminal investigations. This knowledge can help strengthen community-police relations by empowering citizens to play a critical role in solving crimes.

The Dayton Police Department encourages all interested residents to register for this informative event. For those who wish to attend, registration can be completed by emailing [email protected].

Join this important class to gain a better understanding of your rights, how police handle different situations, and how you can contribute to keeping the community safe.
