Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton has introduced an upgraded version of its online reporting system, making it easier for residents to report certain crimes and minor traffic accidents without needing to visit a police station or call emergency services. The Dayton Online Reporting System (DORS) now allows individuals to submit reports conveniently from a computer or mobile device, improving accessibility and efficiency.
Enhanced Digital Crime Reporting
The updated DORS platform is designed to streamline the reporting process for various incidents that do not require an immediate police response. While crimes involving a known suspect must still be reported via phone or in person to allow officers to respond appropriately, many other types of complaints can now be submitted online.
The categories eligible for online reporting include:
- Animal Bites
- Breaking and Entering (B&E)
- Criminal Damaging or Vandalism
- Fraud and Identity Theft
- Lost Property
- Accidental Property Damage
- Telephone Harassment
- Theft, including vehicle-related theft and gas drive-offs
- Minor Traffic Accidents requiring a report number
Residents submitting a report through DORS are encouraged to provide as much detail as possible in their descriptions. If supporting evidence, such as pictures or videos, is available, users can indicate this in the narrative section of their report. They will then receive a link allowing them to upload their files securely.
Improving Efficiency and Public Safety
By enhancing the online reporting process, Dayton Police aim to free up resources and allow officers to focus on higher-priority incidents. The new system also provides a more accessible option for residents who may find it challenging to visit a police station or wait on hold during peak call times.
The online reporting system can be accessed at www.daytonohio.gov/FilePoliceReport or through www.daytonohiopolice.com. This tool is expected to improve response times and help keep the community safer through more efficient crime reporting and tracking.
