Cleveland, Ohio – A Cleveland man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison after abusing his position as a pharmacy technician to unlawfully obtain and distribute controlled substances.
Pharmacy Technician Misused Hospital Orders for Personal Gain
Curtis Green, 35, of Cleveland, was sentenced to 36 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. Green, a certified pharmacy technician employed at a hospital in Mayfield Heights, exploited his role to order drugs under the hospital’s name for his own illegal distribution.
According to court documents, between December 30, 2022, and April 9, 2023, Green placed unauthorized orders for controlled substances while working at the hospital. Instead of ensuring the medications reached patients in need, he diverted them for personal gain. During this period, Green was found in possession of 103 grams of oxycodone and 77.5 grams of a substance containing fentanyl—both classified as highly addictive and dangerous Schedule II controlled substances.
Cash Seized During Search of Residence
Authorities executed a federal search warrant at Green’s residence on April 9, 2023, leading to the discovery and seizure of $72,880 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the illegal drug distribution. An additional $2,025 was seized from him the following day.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, in partnership with the Mayfield Heights Police Department, led the investigation into Green’s activities. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Margaret A. Sweeney.
