Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton is preparing to clean up six properties in the Westwood neighborhood that have faced repeated problems with illegal dumping and blight.
Dayton’s Department of Public Works will oversee the project, which will focus on lots located along the 3000 and 3100 blocks of Delphos Avenue. The work is being supported through “Shine a Light” grant funding from Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson.
The affected properties have repeatedly been used for the illegal disposal of various materials. Items dumped at the sites have included construction and demolition debris, tires, vehicles, automobile parts and containers.
Cleanup supports Westwood renewal efforts
The project will involve more than simply removing larger dumped items. Crews will also clear overgrown vegetation from the properties and remove smaller pieces of debris found in the top layer of soil.
The six lots have been considered a longtime source of blight in Westwood. Their cleanup comes as the neighborhood continues a broader renewal effort driven by members of the community.
The latest funding also marks the second time Dayton has successfully applied for support through the Shine a Light program.
City officials expect the cleanup to address conditions that have affected the Delphos Avenue properties while supporting the continuing effort to improve Westwood and remove visible signs of neglect from the neighborhood.
