Dayton, Ohio – A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison after attempting to flee from a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a traffic stop earlier this year.
Demetric Hagler Sr. received a 24-month prison sentence on October 15, 2026, after pleading guilty to Failure to Comply with the Signal of a Police Officer.
The case began on February 10, 2026, when a deputy noticed a gold Chevrolet Impala traveling in the middle of West Hillcrest Avenue at approximately 2:17 a.m.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle after observing its unusual position on the roadway. However, the driver accelerated instead of pulling over.

Authorities said Hagler continued eastbound on West Hillcrest Avenue, reaching an estimated speed of 75 mph in a 35 mph zone.
While attempting to flee, he lost control of the Impala, narrowly avoided a head-on collision with another vehicle and rolled over. The car eventually came to rest on its roof in the eastbound lane.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies, assisted by officers from the Trotwood Police Department, responded to the scene and worked to remove Hagler from the overturned vehicle.
Despite the dangerous circumstances, Hagler sustained only minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for medical attention before being released and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
The case later proceeded through the court system, resulting in Hagler’s guilty plea on October 15, 2026.
Following his plea to Failure to Comply with the Signal of a Police Officer, the court sentenced him to 24 months in prison.
The incident involved speeds more than twice the posted limit and placed another motorist at risk of a serious collision.
The prison sentence follows the February incident in which Hagler attempted to evade a traffic stop on West Hillcrest Avenue.
