Dayton police arrest 24-year-old man after 65-year-old victim dies following North Trenton Street shooting

Dayton, Ohio – Dayton Police Department detectives have arrested a 24 year old man in connection with the death of 65 year old Ellis Lucas, who was fatally shot on August 26, 2026.

Police identified the suspect as Jayon McFadgion. Following an investigation into the shooting, detectives took McFadgion into custody. The case was then presented to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, which approved charges against him, including Murder.

Shooting reported on North Trenton Street

The investigation began shortly after 9:45 p.m. on August 26 when Dayton officers were sent to the first block of N. Trenton St. following a report of shots being fired.

As officers were traveling to the location, the call was updated to indicate that someone had been shot. When police reached the home, they found Lucas lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers immediately provided first aid until medics arrived. Lucas was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, Lucas was initially listed in stable condition. His condition, however, worsened significantly a short time later. Medical personnel rushed him into surgery, but Lucas ultimately died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Dayton Police Department’s Violent Offender Unit and Homicide Unit responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Their investigation eventually led authorities to identify McFadgion as a suspect and place him under arrest. The information released by police did not provide additional details about what investigators believe led to the shooting or describe any possible relationship between McFadgion and Lucas.

McFadgion now faces charges approved by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, including Murder, in connection with Lucas’ death.
