Springboro man arrested after months-long child exploitation investigation that began with tip from out-of-state law enforcement agency

Springboro, Ohio – A Springboro man has been arrested following a months-long child exploitation investigation that began after the Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force received information from an out-of-state law enforcement agency.

Investigators arrested 63-year-old John Stalcup on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He faces one count of Disseminating Matter Harmful to a Juvenile.

As part of the continuing investigation, authorities also executed a search warrant at Stalcup’s Springboro residence on the same day as his arrest. Officials have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.

The case began when the Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, also known as MVHTTF, received a tip from another law enforcement agency concerning suspected child exploitation. Investigators then spent several months examining the information and conducting a broader investigation into the allegations.

Undercover detective posed as 15-year-old girl

During the investigation, authorities allege that Stalcup communicated online with someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl.

However, there was no actual 15-year-old girl involved in the online communication. The person Stalcup was allegedly communicating with was an undercover detective working with the Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

The months-long investigation eventually led authorities to arrest Stalcup and search his residence.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck said protecting children extends beyond their physical surroundings because offenders can attempt to reach young people through the internet.

“Our children deserve to be protected, both in our communities and online,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck. “The internet has made it easier for offenders to reach children, but it has also made it easier for investigators to follow the digital trail they leave behind. This investigation is another example of the work being done every day to identify those who target minors and intervene before a child is victimized.”

The Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force brings together several local, state, and federal law enforcement organizations to investigate human trafficking and related crimes.

Participating agencies include the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, the Butler Township Police Department, the Oakwood Public Safety Department and Homeland Security Investigations.
