Dayton, Ohio – A major leadership moment unfolded in Dayton as Eric A. Henderson officially became the city’s new police chief during a swearing-in ceremony attended by family, law enforcement officials, and local leaders from across the region.
Henderson took the oath of office on May 7, marking a new chapter for the Dayton Police Department after nearly three decades of service to the community. Officials noted that the new chief has spent 27 years serving Dayton, building a long career within the department before stepping into its top leadership role.
The ceremony brought together a large crowd that included fellow officers from departments throughout the Dayton area, elected officials, city employees, and Henderson’s family members, who stood beside him during the important occasion.
As police chief, Henderson will now oversee a department made up of 365 sworn officers along with 40 professional staff members. The position places him in charge of public safety operations throughout Dayton at a time when many police departments across the country continue facing staffing challenges and increasing demands from communities.
The swearing-in ceremony highlighted Henderson’s long-standing connection to the city and his years of dedication to law enforcement in the region. Community leaders and officers gathered to recognize both his experience and his commitment to serving Dayton residents.
With the oath officially completed, Henderson now begins leading one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the area, taking responsibility for the department’s officers, civilian employees, and daily policing operations throughout the city.
