Dayton, Ohio – Community safety efforts are expanding in Montgomery County as officials prepare to host an educational event focused on the rising risks tied to scams and artificial intelligence. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has announced a public presentation aimed at helping residents better understand how modern threats are evolving and how they can stay protected.
The event, titled “SCAMS & AI DANGERS Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones,” is scheduled for May 6, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It will take place at the Washington Township Government Center located at 8200 McEwen Road in Washington Township. Officials are encouraging residents of all ages to attend, noting that the session is free and open to the public.
Focus on modern threats and simple protection steps
During the presentation, attendees will hear from MCSO IT Director Bart Kincaid and Deputy Chris Kidwell, who will guide the discussion on how scams are changing and becoming more advanced. A key part of the event will explore how artificial intelligence is now being used by criminals to trick people in new and more convincing ways.
The session will break down current scam trends and explain warning signs that should never be ignored. Officials will also share simple and practical steps that individuals and families can use to protect themselves. These steps are designed to be easy to follow while still helping people stay ahead of fraud attempts.
In addition, the presentation will highlight recent fraud cases and the legal challenges connected to them, offering a clearer view of how these crimes impact communities. Organizers say the goal is not only to inform but also to give people confidence in spotting suspicious activity before it leads to harm.
As digital tools continue to grow and change, authorities stress that awareness remains one of the strongest defenses. By attending the session, residents will gain useful knowledge that can help them avoid becoming targets and better protect those around them.
