Young artists invited to design official logo for Montgomery County youth programs

Dayton, Ohio – Montgomery County is giving young people a new way to express their creativity and leave a lasting mark on their community, announcing the launch of its first-ever Youth Logo Design Contest. The initiative invites local artists ages 16 to 24 to design a logo that will represent youth programs and initiatives across the county.

Officials say the contest is more than just an art competition. It is an opportunity for young people to shape how youth programs are seen and understood throughout Montgomery County. The winning design will become the visual identity for a range of county-supported programs, including YouthWorks, Leadership Dayton, and volunteer efforts connected to Environmental Services and the Animal Resource Center.

Contest aims to highlight youth creativity and leadership

The theme for the competition, “This Is What Youth Power Looks Like,” is meant to capture the strength, ideas, and energy that young people bring to the community. Leaders say the goal is to let youth define their own story through art and design.

“Who better to show what youth programs mean to our community than young people themselves? This contest celebrates the unique perspectives, experiences and talents of our young people, and invites them to help shape how these programs are represented,” said Commission President Carolyn Rice. “When young people share their creativity and vision, that’s youth power in action. That’s exactly the kind of leadership and inspiration that will continue moving our county forward.”

Participants must meet specific eligibility requirements. Artists must be between the ages of 16 and 24 and either live in Montgomery County or be enrolled in a school or program within the county. This includes secondary schools, colleges, trade programs, certificate programs, or even homeschool settings.

Entries must be original and submitted in a digital format. Physical artwork is also allowed, but it must be scanned or photographed and uploaded as a digital file. Each submission must include a short written explanation describing the inspiration behind the design, along with a copyright acknowledgment. For participants under 18, a consent form is also required.

The deadline to submit entries is April 30, giving young artists a limited window to bring their ideas to life.

Prizes and recognition for top designs

County officials say entries will be judged based on several factors, including creativity, originality, and how well the design reflects youth programs and the contest theme. Judges will also consider how visually appealing the logo is and whether it can be used across different formats such as websites, printed materials, and presentations.

The winning artist will receive a prize package that includes an iPad, a $250 Michael’s Arts and Crafts gift certificate, and a certificate of recognition. Second- and third-place finalists will also receive recognition along with $100 Michael’s gift certificates.

“Our young people are leaders, innovators and artists who are already shaping the future of this community,” said Michael Colbert. “We’re excited to see designs that capture their vision and celebrate the programs that help them grow, lead and succeed. This contest is a chance for them to share their perspective and create something that reflects the energy, talent and potential of youth across Montgomery County.”

The winning logo will be revealed in Summer 2026 and will be used widely in county communications and outreach efforts. Officials believe the contest will not only highlight artistic talent but also strengthen the connection between young people and the programs designed to support them.

Additional details and submission forms are available online, and questions can be directed to the Montgomery County Office of Strategic Initiatives. Leaders say they are eager to see how young artists interpret the theme and bring their vision of youth power to life.
