Dayton man charged with murder after admitting to shooting girlfriend during early morning incident

Dayton, Ohio – A Dayton man is facing serious charges after police say he admitted to shooting and killing his girlfriend during the early morning hours this week.

Jayme Rogers, 34, was formally charged Wednesday in Dayton Municipal Court with murder, felonious assault, and weapons violations. The charges are connected to the shooting death of 33-year-old Jaime Dick.

Deadly shooting on Queens Avenue

According to previous reports, officers with the Dayton Police Department responded to the 4700 block of Queens Avenue around 2 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a shooting.

In a 911 call, a man — identified as Rogers — urgently told dispatchers to “get here quick, someone is shot.” During that same call, authorities say Rogers admitted to shooting his girlfriend three times. According to an affidavit and statement of facts, he also claimed she had been cheating and said she “got what she deserved.”

Court documents state, “When Dayton Police officers arrived on scene, Mr. Rogers walked out to officers and repeated that he shot her.”

When officers entered the area, they found Dick inside a running vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.

Investigators also revealed that Rogers was legally prohibited from possessing or handling firearms due to a previous conviction. That prior restriction is part of the basis for the additional weapons-related charges he now faces.

Police initially indicated they had taken a 35-year-old suspect into custody, but a department spokesperson clarified Thursday that Rogers is 34 years old.

Rogers is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail as the case proceeds through the court system.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
