Massachusetts – In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through Massachusetts, 26-year-old Zach faces serious charges following the death of B.Welsh, his brother’s 3 months pregnant ex-girlfriend. Authorities have charged Zach with murder, assault, and battery with a dangerous weapon. He entered a plea of not guilty in response to the allegations during a court appearance on Thursday.
The events leading to this tragic outcome began on Tuesday when Zach’s brother, 24-year-old Brendon, was taken into custody following a domestic violence report. According to prosecutors, Brendon and Welsh were involved in a domestic altercation that resulted in Welsh being hospitalized. During Brendon’s incarceration related to this incident, authorities allege that Zach committed the fatal act against Welsh.
Welsh returned to the apartment she shared with the brothers on Wednesday, shortly after being released from the hospital. Her life was brutally taken between 6:15 p.m. and 8:16 p.m. that evening. The following morning, after not hearing from her daughter, Welsh’s mother requested a welfare check, which led to the discovery of Welsh’s body in the apartment, showing severe injuries including cuts to her neck, legs, and abdomen.
Zach was swiftly apprehended by police after surveillance footage captured him leaving the apartment with several bags, including one that appeared to contain clothing with blood stains and a kitchen knife. Initial attempts by Zach to provide an alibi were quickly disproven by additional surveillance footage, leading to further questioning where he claimed to have been in the apartment during the time of Welsh’s death but did not see her.
F. Napolitano, Zach’s attorney, stated that his client vehemently denies responsibility for Welsh’s death and expressed his client’s profound sadness over the incident. On the other hand, the community and Welsh’s family are mourning her loss deeply. A GoFundMe page established by her family describes Welsh as a “bright shining star” whose life was cruelly cut short before she could learn if her unborn child was a boy or a girl.
DA P. Tucker expressed deep sympathy for the family’s loss, which he described as unbearable. He emphasized the commitment of his office to seeking justice for Welsh and her unborn child, hoping to bring some solace to her family and affirm community support during this difficult time. Zach is currently being held without bail, awaiting a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 10. Meanwhile, Brendon also faces legal repercussions; he is charged with assault and battery on a household member and assault and battery upon a pregnant person, with his court appearance set for August 6.
