Dayton, Ohio – Authorities in Montgomery County say a caregiver working at a memory care facility in Washington Township has been charged after allegedly hurting a resident during an incident that prompted an early morning emergency response.
Deputies assigned to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Washington Township Substation were dispatched to the facility at approximately 3:47 a.m. on May 18, 2026, after receiving a report of an assault involving one of the residents living at the care center.
According to investigators, the situation unfolded inside the facility when caregiver Tansiea Walker allegedly grabbed a resident with force, causing injuries. Officials said staff members at the facility quickly contacted 911 once they became aware of what had happened.
The Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation following the report, and authorities later determined there was enough evidence to move forward with criminal charges.
Caregiver Booked Into Jail
Walker was arrested after the investigation and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where she remained in custody following the incident. Prosecutors later approved a felony charge of Patient Abuse or Neglect on May 19, 2026.
Officials have not publicly released additional details regarding the condition of the resident involved or the extent of the injuries allegedly suffered during the incident.
Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck strongly condemned the alleged conduct while also praising employees at the facility for acting quickly once they realized something was wrong.
“This alleged behavior is unacceptable, especially when it involves someone entrusted with the care of another person,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck. “We appreciate the staff members who acted quickly to report the incident, allowing deputies to respond immediately and begin an investigation.”
The case has drawn attention because it involves a vulnerable resident living inside a memory care facility, where families expect loved ones to receive safe and compassionate treatment. Authorities have not said whether additional actions involving the care facility itself are being considered, but the criminal investigation into the alleged abuse has already resulted in felony charges against the caregiver.
