According to a statement issued by Indiana State Police on Sunday, in a well-coordinated operation on Saturday Indiana State Police successfully apprehended a murder suspect from Ohio on the Indiana Toll Road.
Early Saturday morning, Ohio officials notified the Indiana State Police to be on lookout for a suspect connected in the deadly shooting of a 17-year-old male. The suspect was believed to be using the Indiana Toll Road westward from Ohio.
Following the tip, Indiana state trooper noticed a gray Toyota near the La Porte exit that fit the description provided by Ohio law enforcement at about 9:57 a.m. The car had unique marks that indicated it belonged with the wanted person. Before acting, the trooper followed the car discreetly while waiting for reinforcement.
The trooper started a high-risk traffic stop close to the 38-mile marker on the toll road as soon an officer from the Westville Police Department arrived as a backup.
The driver, a 22-year-old man from Painesville, Ohio, was arrested without incident. He was then taken to the La Porte County Jail, where he awaits further judicial actions.
The suspect’s arrest was part of a larger investigation led by the Willoughby Police Department in Ohio, following the tragic shooting of a teenager in their jurisdiction. The name of the suspect will be disclosed following his arraignment, ensuring that all legal protocols are upheld.
