ODOT seeks public input on drainage improvement project for SR 140 in Lawrence County

Chillicothe, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 9’s Environmental Office is inviting public feedback on a drainage improvement project planned for State Route 140 in Lawrence County. The project aims to address chronic flooding issues along the route, enhancing roadway safety and preventing future disruptions.

Details of the SR 140 Improvement Project

Known officially as LAW-140-0.00 (PID 119781), the proposed project will involve replacing an existing culvert beneath the roadway and making vertical profile adjustments to improve drainage. ODOT officials confirmed that these improvements are essential for mitigating flooding issues that have affected this area.

While the project will require approximately 0.383 acres of permanent right-of-way, no homes or businesses will be removed as part of the construction. The environmental commitment date for the project is set for May 7, 2025, and the contract is expected to be awarded by April 1, 2026.

During the construction period, State Route 140 will be closed to traffic. The official detour for drivers will be announced closer to the construction start date to ensure minimal disruption to residents and travelers.

Public Involvement Encouraged

ODOT is encouraging community members and stakeholders to submit their input on the project before the November 7, 2024 deadline. Written comments and feedback can be sent to Brandon Beck, Environmental Supervisor at ODOT District 9. Submissions can be mailed to 650 Eastern Avenue, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, or emailed to [email protected].

The project will be funded through a combination of federal and state resources, with 80% of the funding provided by federal sources and the remaining 20% by the state of Ohio.

ODOT officials emphasized the importance of public engagement in this project. The feedback received will assist in refining the plans and ensuring the project meets community needs. Residents and travelers are encouraged to share their thoughts and learn more about the proposed improvements.
