Kennedy Heights, Ohio – A woman has died and a man has been arrested after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Kennedy Heights, according to authorities.
It was just before 11 p.m. when firefighters were sent to the incident on Woodford Road near Kennedy Heights Park.
When responders arrived, they encountered a significant fire in a lower unit of a three-story structure, with individuals trapped inside.
It took them around 10-15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
While doing a secondary search, they found a victim on the first level of the building. According to the fire department, the individual was transported to a hospital where they died as a result of their severe injuries.
The victim was identified as Regena Mazion, 70.
The 62-year-old, Stephen Lawson, was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and murder in connection with Mazion’s death.
The damage was estimated at $150,000.
Six families have been forcibly displaced and are in need of help from the Red Cross.
