Columbus, Ohio – In response to a request from North Carolina for additional support in recovery efforts following the severe flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Helene, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has mobilized additional members of the Ohio National Guard.
Governor DeWine activated 10 Airmen from the Homeland Response Forces of the 121st Air Refueling Wing. These Airmen will assist first responders with fatality search and recovery operations. This activation follows a deployment announced earlier this week, in which six soldiers from Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment were sent to North Carolina. These soldiers will assist in transporting supplies, equipment, and personnel using a CH47 helicopter.
The assistance comes as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a nationwide mutual aid partnership that enables states to provide support to one another during state or federally declared emergencies. By activating these Airmen and Soldiers, Ohio is lending critical support to North Carolina’s recovery efforts as the state works to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Governor DeWine’s decision to mobilize the Ohio National Guard highlights the importance of rapid response and collaboration among states during times of crisis.
