Full snowplow deployment scheduled in Dayton to tackle anticipated hazardous driving conditions

Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton is gearing up for a potential winter storm expected to impact the area on Sunday, January 5, and Monday, January 6. Forecasters predict hazardous driving conditions starting Sunday afternoon and persisting into early or mid-week.

In preparation, the Department of Public Works has scheduled a full-scale winter operations deployment, beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. A team of 44 primary snowplow drivers will report for a 16-hour shift to treat streets across the city. To maintain continuous coverage, the department will rotate drivers in 16-hour shifts for as long as necessary to address road conditions.

Special Focus on Downtown Dayton

The Central Business District (CBD) will require extra attention due to forecasted snow accumulations combined with below-average temperatures. These conditions are expected to hinder natural snowmelting. The City anticipates conducting a “haul-out” operation following the storm. During this process, snow will be plowed to the center of streets, particularly in areas with parking meter zones, and then removed using dump trucks.

The City of Dayton urges residents to exercise caution during this winter weather event, particularly while driving. As snow removal efforts are underway, residents are encouraged to monitor local updates for further information on road conditions and city operations.

By deploying a proactive strategy and mobilizing resources, Dayton is prepared to tackle the challenges posed by this impending storm.
