Oklahoma – In a harrowing case in Oklahoma, a 42-year-old man, identified as Vaughn C., has been sentenced to life in prison for the horrific crime committed against his 40-year-old wife, identified as Jordan C. According to reports, Vaughn, who is an ex-deputy, was sentenced earlier this week after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in September in connection with the incident where he shot his wife a dozen times in the face.
N. Pyle, the victim’s father, criticized the defendant before the sentencing, stating that he had doubts about their marriage and cautioned him about touching her, according to reports. “No, you just shot her 12 times in the face,” Pyle said during the sentencing. Pyle responded to the punishment by saying, “I think it was only just that he spend the rest of his life in prison,” according to reports from local media.
One of the defendant’s kids, who is also the victim’s stepson, mounted the stand, looked at Vaughn, and uttered the words, “I (expletive) hate you.”
Vaughn claimed to be tortured in a statement that was read out in court prior to the sentence being handed down. According to reports, he continued, “Please believe me when I say it is so much worse for me. I am tortured every single day. It’s been brutal. I would take her place if God would let me. I will accept the sentence given to me by the court.”
According to court documents, Vaughn shot his wife on August 30, 2023, at their home. Following the violence, the defendant appears distraught in body-worn camera footage. According to a probable cause document submitted in the case, Vaughn’s stepson heard multiple gunshots on the night of the incident, followed by piercing shouts. The 17-year-old admitted to police that he went to bed at midnight and didn’t believe his mother or stepfather were home.
The boy claimed that at around two in the morning, he heard Vaughn “screaming from their bedroom” and “about five gunshots,” so he rushed outside the house and dialed the police. Jordan was discovered deceased in one of the bedrooms by the responding cops. A number of firearms were discovered within the residence. “Are you in there with anyone else?” The body-worn camera footage shows an officer yelling at the defendant. Vaughn responds from around a corner of the house, “No, it’s my wife.” “Is she alright?” the officer inquires. “No,” replies Vaughn.
According to the video, officers emphasize that the man already understands “how this works” and ask him to “please don’t have a weapon” as they explain that they want to help the injured woman but also need the man to “help” them. He claims to be without a weapon. The footage shows Vaughn gently crawling out of the bedroom on his hands and knees as seconds pass. He speaks loudly and plaintively into a black cellphone that he is holding in his left hand. “Come see me, uncle, uncle,” the deputy pleads, sobbing. “Come see, uncle. Uncle Charles.
According to the police, Vaughn refrained from confessing to the crime. According to the affidavit of probable cause, “Detectives interviewed Vaughn after being advised of his Miranda Rights.” He said he did not recall the full episode after agreeing to talk to detectives. Vaughn remembered his wife sitting on the edge of the bed in their bedroom. Vaughn recalled calling his uncle after hearing gunshots. Vaughn said, “He’s f—– up,” throughout their talk. Vaughn was instructed to turn himself in to the police by his uncle.
