Dayton man indicted for armed robberies across southwest Ohio during December crime spree

Dayton, Ohio – A federal grand jury has indicted Timothy Farr, 43, of Dayton, on charges connected to 12 armed robberies committed throughout southwest Ohio in December 2024. Farr was initially arrested in December after being charged in a criminal complaint for eight of these crimes. The grand jury’s 24-count indictment includes serious charges, with each count carrying significant penalties.

Farr faces 12 counts of interfering with commerce by threats or violence, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and 12 counts of using a firearm during a violent crime, punishable by a mandatory minimum of seven years and up to life imprisonment.

Details of the Robbery Spree

According to the indictment, Farr targeted gas stations, convenience stores, and drive-thru markets, brandishing a firearm and demanding cash and cigarettes. During the robberies, Farr was reportedly dressed in dark clothing, including a black balaclava mask or N-95 style mask, and gray two-tone gloves. Witnesses described him wielding a black firearm.

  • Dec. 7: Free Pike Drive-Thru, Free Pike, Dayton
  • Dec. 8: Sunoco gas station, Selma Road, Springfield
  • Dec. 8: Family Dollar, Salem Avenue, Trotwood
  • Dec. 10: Mini Mart, N. Main Street, Dayton
  • Dec. 11: Marathon gas station, E. Fifth Street, Dayton
  • Dec. 12: White Oak Deli, Cheviot Road, Green Township
  • Dec. 14: Family Dollar, West Main Street, Springfield
  • Dec. 15: Sammy’s Drive-thru, Woodman Drive, Riverside
  • Dec. 15: United Dairy Farmers, Vine Street, Cincinnati

Investigation and Arrest

Authorities used the Flock Safety Camera System to identify a red 2011 Ford Taurus as a vehicle of interest tied to the robbery scenes. Dayton police stopped the vehicle on December 16, 2024, with Farr in the front passenger seat. Police discovered Farr wearing clothing consistent with witness descriptions of the robber, along with an N-95 mask on the floorboard and gray gloves in his pocket. A 9mm pistol was found in Farr’s waistband.

Multi-Agency Collaboration

The charges were announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), along with local law enforcement leaders from Springfield, Dayton, Trotwood, Green Township, Cincinnati, and Riverside. Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Saunders is handling the prosecution.
