Blaine Hill Bridge in Belmont County set for rehabilitation as ODOT begins preliminary work

Blaine, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is moving forward with a major rehabilitation project to restore the historic Blaine Bridge in Belmont County. Known as the Blaine Hill Arches of Memory Rehabilitation Project, this effort will rebuild and strengthen the U.S. Route 40 bridge while maintaining its historical character.

Preliminary Work Begins on Blaine Bridge

Starting the week of March 10, ODOT crews will begin preliminary environmental work on the Blaine Bridge to ensure the area meets all necessary requirements before full-scale construction begins. This phase will involve accessing both the bridge deck and the areas beneath the bridge to inspect its deteriorating conditions and prepare it for restoration.

To complete this process, crews will use specialized equipment, including lifts, to reach the most damaged portions of the bridge. The work will be conducted carefully to ensure safety for workers and the structure itself.

Additionally, contractors will begin tree-cutting operations in the project area throughout March to clear space for upcoming construction.
