Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton has announced that the former “Diner on St. Clair” is now available for purchase through an online auction, giving interested buyers an opportunity to acquire a classic American diner that has stood in downtown Dayton for decades.
The city-owned structure, located at 101 S. St. Clair St., has been listed on GovDeals.com, with bidding scheduled to remain open until November 30 at 4 p.m.
The diner is known for its stainless steel exterior and traditional roadside design. Originally manufactured as a prefabricated diner, the structure was moved to Dayton and placed at its current downtown location in 1988.
Its appearance reflects the classic American diner style, making it a distinctive structure in the downtown area.
Buyer must arrange removal as city plans new police station
The auction comes as Dayton prepares for a new use of the property where the diner currently stands.
According to the city, the diner and an adjoining property are located at the planned site of the Dayton Police Department Central District Station.
As part of the sale requirements, the successful bidder must agree to specific conditions concerning the structure’s removal.
Most importantly, the buyer will be responsible for arranging transportation through a licensed and insured company.
This requirement means the winning bidder must make plans to move the diner rather than leave it at its present location.
The city has directed interested buyers to its official auction information page at https://www.daytonohio.gov/dinerauction, where the listing can be accessed.
With the November 30 deadline approaching, prospective buyers have a limited period to review the auction requirements and submit their bids.
The sale marks a possible new chapter for the former “Diner on St. Clair” while allowing the city to move forward with plans for the future police district station at the downtown property.
