Dayton, Ohio – A Dayton man has been taken into custody by federal agents after allegedly making violent threats against a United States Congressman.
Details of the Arrest
Jeffrey Dorsey, 60, a former resident of Columbus, was arrested yesterday evening and formally appeared before a U.S. District Court judge in Dayton today at 1:30 p.m. His case was unsealed earlier this morning, revealing disturbing details of the allegations against him.
According to charging documents, Dorsey allegedly called the Congressman’s main office line and left a voicemail filled with explicit threats. The call was reportedly made in response to the potential of cuts being made to Medicaid.
In the recorded message, Dorsey stated, “If you vote to take my fing Medicaid away, I’m gonna cut your fing head off…But I tell you this, clearly to your brain, if you f*** with my Medicaid, you’re a dead f***.”
Federal Response and Charges
Authorities confirmed that the threatening voicemail is the basis for the charges. Making interstate communications with a threat to injure is a serious federal offense that carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.
Federal officials emphasized the gravity of the situation, underscoring that threats against elected leaders, regardless of circumstance, will not be dismissed.
“The FBI takes all threats seriously,” said FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola. “Threats to harm others, including public officials, will never be tolerated.”
Dorsey is currently facing charges for interstate communications containing threats, and federal prosecutors confirmed that additional evidence is under review. Court officials have not yet announced his detention status or any bond decisions.
The case highlights growing concerns about threats directed toward public officials, especially in relation to highly debated policy issues such as healthcare access.
As the investigation continues, officials urge the public to remain aware that making violent threats, whether in person, over the phone, or online, will result in swift and serious federal action.
