Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Police Department has issued an alert to inform residents about a concerning rise in thefts associated with Facebook Marketplace transactions throughout the city.
According to the department, “Facebook Marketplace Thefts are again trending” in Dayton. Suspects are reportedly targeting sellers of high-value items such as ATVs. They often ask for a test drive, hand over envelopes stuffed with fake money, and then speed off with the item, leaving sellers empty-handed.
To help reduce these crimes, police strongly recommend that buyers and sellers use one of the department’s designated Safe Exchange Zones. These locations are set up at police buildings, providing a secure spot for completing online transactions.
The Safe Exchange Zones in Dayton are located at:
-
951 Washington St
-
2721 Wayne Ave
-
248 Salem Ave
-
417 E Helena St
Dayton Police emphasize the importance of public safety and encourage anyone planning to meet up for a Facebook Marketplace sale to take advantage of these locations. Using a Safe Exchange Zone can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft.
Residents are reminded to stay cautious and prioritize safety when selling or buying items online.
