Tree Planting program to enhance Dayton’s landscape thanks to a new initiative led by the City of Dayton

Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton is eager to announce its 2024 Fall Tree Planting Program in an effort to improve the urban landscape and promote environmental sustainability. This program gives Dayton citizens the chance to have street trees placed outside their houses, therefore promoting a better neighborhood.

The initiative concentrates on tree planting in public right-of-way locations near homes. One has to meet several specific requirements in order to be qualified for a tree planting. At least 25 feet should separate the planting area from intersections and stop signs, at least 3 feet deep, placed a minimum of 10 feet from any overhead and subsurface services. These measures guarantee the continued health and safety of the tree growth free from interfering with urban development.

Those who would want to take part in this initiative are advised to evaluate their outside environment and then get in touch with the city to ask for a Dayton forester visit. The forester will assess the site to be sure it satisfies the required planting conditions. Should the site prove fit, it will be included to the planting schedule for the next season in the city.

Apart from fulfilling physical needs, people can indicate their preferred tree species when they make a request. Still, the City Forester will decide the species to be grown in the end. This choice guarantees long-term advantages for the neighborhood since it is based on several elements, including the particular requirements of the site and the capacity of the species to thrive in the local surroundings.

The City of Dayton will also set a watering bag around a tree once it is planted. For the first two years, residents are invited to fill the watering bag weekly during the growth season, therefore helping to nurture their new green contribution. This approach guarantees the tree’s health and growth and helps build a robust root system.
