Trash and recycling services in Dayton, Moraine, and Jefferson Township adjusted for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Dayton, Ohio – In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, the City of Dayton has announced schedule adjustments for waste collection services across Dayton, Moraine, and Jefferson Township.

The city offices will be closed for the holiday, and residents are advised to note the temporary changes to trash, recycling, and bulk pickup services during the week following the holiday.

One-Day Delay in Dayton

For residents within Dayton city limits, trash and recycling pickups will operate on a one-day delay for the entire week. Those expecting regular service on Monday should have their containers ready on Tuesday, and so forth throughout the week. However, city officials have confirmed that there will be no bulk waste collection on Friday, January 23. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and hold off on placing large items curbside until the following scheduled date.

Moraine Adjusts for Saturday Collection

In Moraine, the city will also observe the holiday with changes to its waste collection calendar. Trash, recycling, and bulk waste scheduled for Friday, January 23, will instead be collected on Saturday, January 24. The one-day shift ensures that all services are completed within the week while accommodating the MLK holiday.

Jefferson Township Follows a Similar Plan

Similarly, Jefferson Township residents will see a one-day delay for trash collection all week. In addition, recycling and bulk waste pickups normally set for Friday, January 23, will be collected on Saturday, January 24.

Officials emphasize the importance of timely placement of containers. “Residents are reminded to place containers at the collection point by 6 a.m. of collection day. Thank you!” the city noted in its public announcement.

These adjustments are made in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a national day of service and remembrance honoring the legacy of the civil rights leader. By notifying residents in advance, the City of Dayton and its neighboring communities aim to keep essential waste management services on track while allowing workers to observe the holiday.

Residents with questions about the adjusted schedule can contact their local public works or waste collection departments for more details.
