Trash and recycling collection schedules shift across Dayton area due to Juneteenth holiday

Dayton, Ohio – Residents in Dayton, Moraine, and Jefferson Township should prepare for adjusted trash and recycling collection schedules due to the upcoming Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, June 19. Local officials have confirmed service delays to ensure observance of the federal holiday, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

Revised Waste Collection Times Across Three Areas

In the City of Dayton, all Thursday trash and recycling services will be delayed by one day. “Thursday trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day to Friday, June 20,” city officials confirmed. Additionally, residents are advised that there will be no bulk pickup in Dayton during the holiday week.

In Moraine, the city’s sanitation department will carry out trash and recycling services on Saturday instead of Thursday. “Trash and recycling collection will occur on Saturday, June 21,” officials stated. As with Dayton, Moraine will not provide bulk pickup for this week.

Meanwhile, Jefferson Township is also modifying its collection timetable. “Thursday trash collection will occur on Friday, June 20. Recycling and bulk collection are scheduled for Saturday, June 21,” the township announced in a notice to residents.

City and township leaders are encouraging residents to plan ahead and ensure that bins are placed out according to the adjusted schedule. These changes, while temporary, are part of a broader effort to honor Juneteenth while maintaining essential services.

For any additional questions, residents are encouraged to check with their local waste management departments.
