Three officers injured by bullet fragments after a handgun was accidentally discharged in Piqua police station

Piqua, Ohio – Three Piqua police officers were taken to the hospital for treatment after a handgun was accidentally discharged inside the police station on Tuesday afternoon. Eventually, they were released after receiving treatment.

According to a release from the Piqua Police Department, the incident occurred when officers returned to the station after shooting range training and while cleaning their weapons, one of the guns discharged one bullet into the floor by accident.

Three officers were wounded in the legs by bullet fragments. All of them were transported to Upper Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. They were released later after receiving medical attention.

The identities of the officers who were hurt in the incident have not been made public.

An investigation was launched in order to determine how the incident occurred.
