Three-alarm fire completely destroyed a Darke County structure, thousands of animals killed

Darke County, Ohio – Officials in Darke County reported that a hog barn had caught fire early Thursday morning.

Fire crews were sent to a report of a 3-alarm fire in the 10000 block of Coletown Lightsville Road in Darke County at the Kenneth Scholl Hog Farm around 6 a.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, they saw heavy smoke coming from the hog barn that was engulfed in flames.

The fire was put out as a result of the efforts of the fire crews from ten area departments, but the hog barn was completely destroyed.

Authorities said that 2,000 hogs inside the structure were killed in the fire.

The cause of the fire has yet to be identified as the investigation is ongoing.
