Snow removal operations expand across 65 neighborhoods as crews work through residential streets and downtown areas

Dayton, Ohio – City officials issued a road conditions update as snow removal efforts continue across neighborhoods, alleys, and the downtown area. Crews have been working through the night and remain active today, with operations expected to continue into tomorrow as weather conditions allow. The update outlines progress so far and sets expectations for residents regarding street access, waste collection, and downtown cleanup.

Ongoing Snow Removal and Service Adjustments

City crews are currently focused on clearing snow in all 65 neighborhoods, with residential streets receiving continued attention after overnight operations. Officials say the goal is to improve travel conditions and neighborhood access, but lingering cold temperatures and heavy snowfall may slow progress in certain areas. Crews will remain deployed citywide as conditions evolve.

Along with residential streets, alleys and waste collection routes are also part of the response. Crews are plowing alleys specifically to allow trash and recycling trucks to pass through. Officials stressed that alleys are not being fully cleared, only opened enough for service access. Because freezing temperatures and packed snow remain an issue, some alleys may still be difficult to reach.

Despite these challenges, trash and recycling collection will continue, though on an adjusted schedule. Monday collection routes are now planned for Wednesday, while Tuesday routes are planned for Thursday. Residents are encouraged to remain patient as crews work through delays caused by weather conditions.

Downtown snow removal is also well underway. Crews have already cleared snow from Main, 3rd, Perry, and Jefferson streets. Work is currently ongoing on Ludlow and 5th, after which teams will move to less-traveled downtown streets and Monument after 3:00 p.m. Officials say downtown snow removal is targeted for completion by Thursday, depending on weather and equipment availability.

City leaders thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as crews continue working around the clock. Officials emphasized that safety, access, and essential services remain the priority as snow response operations move forward across the entire city.
