
Dayton, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 7 is inviting residents and stakeholders to submit public comments on a series of upcoming infrastructure projects spanning multiple counties and municipalities. These projects, aimed at improving pedestrian safety, modernizing roadways, and maintaining essential transportation infrastructure, are in the planning or design stages, with construction expected to begin between 2027 and 2028.
Upgrades to Pedestrian Access in Ft. Recovery
One of the proposed projects is the Ft. Recovery Pedestrian Improvements, PID 122263, which focuses on making it safer for students to walk to school. “The Village of Ft. Recovery proposes to upgrade pedestrian facilities at the intersections of Butler Street at First & Third Streets and to install a new sidewalk facility at the access drive the to elementary & middle schools.” Construction for this project is slated to begin in Summer 2027, and its goal is to enhance pedestrian access near educational facilities.
Right-of-Way Acquisition in Mercer County
In Center Township, Mercer County, ODOT has proposed the SR 197-4.22 Right-of-Way Acquisition, PID 116493 project. The purpose of this initiative is “to acquire right-of-way at an existing culvert system” to ensure full public ownership. This will allow for both the replacement and long-term maintenance of the culvert at MER-197-0422, CFN 1861552.
Broadway Street Reconstruction in Covington
The Village of Covington has expanded plans for the Broadway Street Improvements, PID 119367. While the initial phase includes reconstruction from east of the Stillwater River to just east of North High Street, a recent update adds “full-depth pavement repairs of Broadway Street, from just east of High Street to Larry Avenue.” Construction is now scheduled to begin in Spring 2028.
US 36 and SR 721 Intersection to Become Roundabout
In a significant redesign based on public input, ODOT will move forward with converting the intersection of US 36 and SR 721 into a roundabout. “After consideration of public input, ODOT has decided to move forward with the recommended preferred alternative to convert the intersection… to a modern, single-lane roundabout.” This project, listed under PID 118070, is expected to start construction in Spring 2027. Salem Avenue Infrastructure in Dayton
The City of Dayton is tackling deteriorated roadways and outdated pedestrian infrastructure through the Salem Avenue Improvements Phase 6, PID 119363. This reconstruction will cover areas from Elsmere Avenue to Benson Avenue, and from just east of Victoria Avenue to Litchfield Avenue. Scheduled to begin in Spring 2028, this project is designed to provide safer and smoother travel for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
Bridge Maintenance in Shelby County
Finally, PID 116920 involves maintenance work on the State Route 119 Bridge over White Feather Ditch in Van Buren Township, Shelby County. Construction is set to begin in Spring 2027, ensuring the structure remains safe and functional.
Public Comment Period Open Through October 31, 2025
ODOT encourages residents to share their thoughts on how these projects may impact the environment, air quality, the local economy, and cultural or historical resources. Comments should be submitted by October 31, 2025.
