Roundhead Township, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 is requesting public feedback on a planned safety improvement project in Roundhead Township, Hardin County. The project involves constructing a roundabout at the intersection of State Route 67 and State Route 235, where safety concerns persist despite prior mitigation efforts.
Roundabout Chosen as Preferred Safety Solution
ODOT has selected a centered circular roundabout—referred to as “Alternative 1”—as the preferred solution following a detailed safety study completed in 2024. This design was chosen from three alternatives evaluated for their effectiveness in reducing both crash frequency and severity. The new roundabout will replace the current intersection layout, which has been a consistent site of crashes over the years.
The decision to move forward with a roundabout stems from ongoing safety concerns at the intersection. Past efforts dating back to a 2001 study resulted in several modifications, including improved signage, pavement markings with flashing LED intersection-ahead warnings, the removal of a continuous right-turn lane on the south leg of the intersection in 2004, and a southward shift of State Route 67 in 2008 to improve sight distance.
Despite these efforts, crashes have continued, prompting ODOT to secure funding through Ohio’s Highway Safety Program (HSIP) for the design and construction of a more comprehensive and permanent solution.
Timeline and Construction Outlook
The project is currently in the planning phase and is expected to enter detailed design later this year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, allowing time for engineering, environmental reviews, and community input.
Permanent and temporary right-of-way will likely be required for construction, with some property acquisitions needed to complete the work. Property owners affected by this process will be contacted directly by a real estate representative from ODOT once detailed plans are finalized.
Public Feedback Encouraged
ODOT is encouraging residents and stakeholders to share their views on the proposed roundabout. All comments received by Monday, May 12, 2025, will be included in the project’s public input summary report.
Community members can submit feedback through the online comment form available on the project webpage at transportation.ohio.gov/projects/projects/121970, or by contacting the project manager directly:

This initiative represents a major step in ODOT’s continuing effort to improve traffic safety across the state, particularly at intersections with documented crash patterns. The agency hopes community input will help shape the final design and ensure the roundabout meets the needs of both motorists and the surrounding community.
